Lead people and AI together — and still enjoy the work.
After 21 years leading engineering teams at Google and Microsoft — through every major shift, from mobile to DevOps to knowledge graphs to GenAI — I help engineering managers and senior software engineers evolve into the leaders the AI era demands. Alongside coaching, I'm co-founding a company in the AI space, so the shift I help you navigate is one I'm in right now, not just recalling from a past chapter. Together, we'll think clearly about the version of leadership the AI era actually rewards — and make sure you come out of this transition more effective, less burnt out, and still in love with the work.
You might be in the right place if:
- You've just been promoted to engineering manager or tech lead and the playbook you inherited already feels out of date.
- You're a tenured EM or director suddenly responsible for shipping AI products — and you're not sure which of your old instincts still apply.
- Your team is being asked to do more with fewer people, and you can feel the shape of the role changing under you.
- You're tired in a way that no weekend can fix, and you want to figure out whether to recommit, reshape, or step back.
- You're a founding engineer or technical co-founder of a new startup — building the product and the team at the same time — and you want to grow into the leader the company needs.
- You want a thinking partner who has actually led engineering teams through this kind of shift — not a generalist coach with a framework borrowed from a book.
The three capabilities that define a modern tech leader
Most leadership advice for engineers was written for a world that no longer exists. The teams you lead are smaller, more hybrid, and increasingly working with AI as a collaborator rather than a tool. The job has changed shape. My coaching is built around the three capabilities that, in my experience, separate the leaders who thrive in this era from those who quietly burn out.
Product sense
Knowing what's worth building, and what isn't. In an environment where AI lets you build almost anything quickly, the bottleneck is judgment. We sharpen yours — taste, prioritisation, the ability to push back on the wrong roadmap.
Hybrid team leadership
Leading people and AI together. Smaller teams, more leverage, harder coordination problems. We work on how you set direction, where you spend your attention, and how you make the new shape of the team actually function.
Resilience
Staying effective for the long haul, without quietly resenting your own job. This is the capability most coaches skip. It's the one that decides whether you're still doing this work — and enjoying it — in three years.
Three steps.
1. We talk
A free 30-minute call. You tell me what's going on. I tell you honestly whether coaching is the right tool for it. No pitch.
2. We pick the shape
A single diagnostic session, a three-month pivot package, or a longer-term advisory retainer. Whichever fits the moment you're in.
3. We do the work
Confidential conversations, real homework between sessions, and a thinking partner who has been in the room when these decisions actually get made.
